The Church of Kurt

As long as I've known my Dad (yes his name is Kurt) he hasn't been a religious person. But he always had a neat answer when people asked him about religion. He would respond, "I attend the Church of Kurt, I think what I want, and I do as I please." When I was younger this was very silly, and i still is today, but now it makes me wonder... can I create my own religion? If you think about it not even Jesus Christ created a religion. He started a following that developed into a religion. Would it be possible to start one all on your own? If so, who would join? How long would it last? and would it be taken seriously?

  1. I think that we can probably say that Jesus started a new religion. He didn't create it, per se, at least not intentionally, but he was the cause of this new religion. So, presumably, you could amass a large number of followers and create stories about your divinity; assuming people believe it, and they very well may, you could be the center of some religion. You could certainly start a cult of your own, like Marshall Applewhite, or not, he was a bit crazy. You could also do fairly well in creating a sect of a religion of your choice. Good luck to you, Dios.

  2. Jesus didn't have a hand in turning his beliefs into a religion, it was developed many years later. So why not? You would have to do some pretty inspirational stuff and get some followers, but anything is possible.

I didn't write this exact question per say, but I did write about Gandhi and Professor Silliman indicated that there is still time for there to be a religion based on Gandhi's beliefs.

  3. I think a religion devoted to active nonviolence in a continuous challenge to inequality, disrespect for others, and unjust authority would be a great idea.

Or was that the religion Jesus was trying to found?
